What started out as a Christmas charity tennis tournament in December 2004 has evolved into a worthy endeavor – to provide needy families with that special gift for children who would normally go without a Bike at this most special time of year. From this tournament, Lou Ventura raised enough donations to help local families by purchasing 30 new bikes as Christmas presents. As other community members became involved, we began to work with The Unity Shoppe to allocate these bikes.
In 2007, Lou’s efforts vastly increased. With the help of some very special friends, we donated more than 450 new bikes! From that effort, Kids And Bikes was born.
Our goal each year is to gather enough funds to exceed the year before and purchase even more bikes of different sizes to accommodate the needs of Santa Barbara County.
All vendors are donating bikes at cost and dozens of volunteers assemble them on one giant Saturday each December

Kids And Bikes Foundation is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization that began for the purpose of providing new bicycles to the children of families who had fallen on hard times. The idea was simple – get the members of Goleta Valley and Santa Barbara to donate money for Bicycles. Bikes would be purchased at cost and assembled by volunteers to provide a gift to those children who would otherwise go without. We believe that everybody remembers their first bike and we wanted to be part of that memory.
